USJ 4x4 started with my own Land Cruiser 60 Series build in 2015. I wanted something more capable than my IFS Ranger, I trusted someone else to build it, and when that went sideways I ended up renting a small corner of a shop and doing it myself with Zaw Zaw. That small corner became USJ 4x4 Garage.
What we actually do
Today we restore, restomod and build selected 4x4s with a simple mindset: do it properly, or do not bother. Chassis work, driveline, fabrication, wiring, engine builds, engine conversions, suspension and axle engineering, cooling, brakes, interiors and full project management. Land Cruisers are what we know best, and we also take on selected Pajero, Jimny, Defender, Range Rover, Patrol, Hilux and other vehicles that are genuinely worth the engineering.
This is not fast-food 4x4 work. It is closer to engineering, with more dust and worse language.
Why an engineer runs it
I am Vishant Selvarajah, the founder. I am an engineer, and I am the person responsible for the technical direction of every build here. That matters because a proper restoration is not a list of parts to bolt on. It is a series of engineering decisions about a whole vehicle: how the driveline, the cooling, the wiring, the geometry and the fabrication all work together, and what the vehicle is actually going to be used for. Get those decisions right and the car lasts. Get them wrong and no amount of paint hides it.
I oversee the builds, the direction and the technical calls, which is a polite way of saying I make everyone's life harder until the job is right.
Our V12 Land Cruiser, a Toyota Century 1GZ-FE swapped into a 60 Series, was featured internationally by Silodrome in November 2024, with the full build, fabrication and dyno results documented under our name. As far as we can tell, no other Malaysian workshop has an in-house engineering build with a feature like it.
The team
This is not a one-man show, and the credit goes to the people who show up, stay late and build like they actually care. It is a small crew of obsessed people doing things properly rather than quickly.
Vishant Selvarajah
Engineer, and the person accountable for every engineering decision on every build.
Zaw Zaw
The metalwork that holds a build together. Chassis, chromoly, mounts and the fabrication that cannot be faked.
Why we do not accept every project
We build a limited number of vehicles at a time, and we are honest about what we take on. If a project does not make sense, or the budget and the ambition do not match, we will say so early rather than waste your money and our bench space. Proper diagnosis and planning come before any quotation, because old vehicles hide their problems and guessing helps nobody.
We are not a walk-in workshop, we do not do quick quotes from photos, and we are not the cheapest option in town. What we are is the workshop you call when the vehicle needs to be right.
Diagnosis before quotes
We look at the vehicle properly before we talk numbers. Old metal does not read the brochure.
Documented engineering
The decisions and the work get recorded, so you know exactly what was done and why.
Built to be used
Vehicles that drive, work and last, not show pieces that live on a trailer.
